Here are a few valuable practice tips to use with your children....
Practice the day of your lesson! The info is fresh and practicing the day of the lesson will help your child to have more successful practice sessions during the week.
Don't make practice an option. Ask your child questions like " Would you like to start with your review piece from last week or your new piece?" This gives them the chance to make a choice about how they will practice instead of IF they will practice.
Keep practice sessions short if your child is tired or has a lot of homework. Try to get them to practice even if it is for a short amount of time. This sets a good example because it shows them that you think practice is as important as homework.
If your child is struggling with their piece, make sure to have them play a little at a time. If you tackle the whole piece, this may make it seem overwhelming. Playing a few measures at a time is a good way to achieve small goals and make things easier to understand.
Show your child that YOU think practicing is very important. If they see that their parents think highly of music education, they will follow.
